Vacation with no twist

Where did you go on a vacation? Ah, me! I just stayed at home every day of the 1 month vacation that I had and boy! didn’t I enjoy every moment.

What did you do? Some writing, mostly thinking and some brooding.

Home was to me my paradise this last month, a world full of options for rest, somewhat rare delicacies, well, I rarely cook those, with ample time for dreams, day and night, for cooking up grand plans, of taking time to look at the wardrobe overflowing with saris, of mixing and matching this with that and that with this, of writing anytime, of listening to songs, many of them, of binge watching movies old and new, of calling up people, I rarely do that, of filling up my journal with colourful fantasies of a colourful life, of trying my hand at learning a few shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita, renewing the vow to learn Kannada, dreaming of a clean swacchh India, no Bangalore, no RT Nagar, smiling and saying hi hello to a few neighbours and in general making the right noises about the difficulties of living, of stubbornly refusing to step out of the house, of composting for a month now, of feeling delighted of being at home and putting on a few extra pounds with the excuse that I will lose it once the work starts again!

When the world was caught in the rains, in the waters gushing down the roads, I was blissfully marooned in the cocoon of my home.

I sat at home watching the little kids being rushed to school and them sauntering back in the afternoon.

I watched ladies literally run to catch the school bus and walk back home in relaxed groups.

I listened carefully to the morning noises, the afternoon excitements, the evening howls and the night time growls with the rain dance in between.

This comfort after years of angst, of struggle, of fighting against the wall that seemed to impede me, crush me beneath its weight, every time I tried to raise my head.

I thought of how so many times, for so many days, I would sit in the car, refusing to go home like a stubborn child, of how I preferred any activity outdoors to the four walls of the house.

And this last month I revelled in the freedom of having the place to myself, of scrubbing and cleaning and even talking to the walls.

Somethings reinforce the need to stay away and this past month put a stamp of approval on my decision to break free, break away to be the self…

Blessed truly!

Cheers to the new academic year! To new courses and new students! To new experiences! To a renewed promise to research, learn, write and grow!

Of Choosing…

Into the wilderness of thoughts

the space, the mind

you add your share

at the click of a button

a whirlpool of ideas

sometimes regurgitated

sometimes new

reaching out to what is there

and what is ready to be made.

You add your bit

to mitigate the chaos

to deepen the yawning chasm

to reach out

to hold

and sometimes hoping to be held

then the gunfire

the word-fire

and some misfire

but reaching out

you stretch your thought muscles

to make sense

even though you are sometimes

senseless yourself, totally

but silence is not golden

not always, not now

so speak

so argue

so fight a duel of words

and express, express and express

so that you connect or disconnect.

It is a terrific world out there

what will be slain

what will remain standing

it is difficult to tell

but the tears of the mother

the agony of a father

the love of friend

the longing of a lover

the dance of a butterfly

and a croaking toad

shall always seek

a kinder world

so write,speak,argue

but don’t chose silence

against yourself,

the children of tomorrow

their lives ask of you!

Actualize your dream

“While I as a south Indian will have my dinner, I will also keep the barter ready for the dosa for the next day’s breakfast”, quipped a friend. And that is what is called planning.

If you have have wishes unfulfilled, dreams not yet realized and if that frustrates you, then you should keep your barter ready for the tomorrow that comes your way.

So, let me ask you. What dreams have you? Become stinking rich, be powerful, enjoy fame and attention, possess a great physique, set a world record or get up early for that morning walk?

What ever your dreams be, whatever your wishes are, you need to start some where, some time soon, to work on getting them become real.

Say for instance, your dream is to found a great institution of learning. Then you should ask your self what have you done to actualize it?

Have you contacted a few school owners to understand how they went about setting up their schools?

Have you discussed with your friends to find out what is there expectation from a great place of learning?

Do you follow the latest regulations and reforms happening in the field?

Or at least have you thought about the best players in the market?

Do not waste your precious time to act by sitting on the fence.

Do not be afraid of failures.

Remember no body can take away your learning in the event of your failure.

Here’s what I learnt.

# Start somewhere, anywhere, but start.

Make your to do list, meet up with like-minded people, dream, write your idea down, talk about it with passion and enthusiasm and the universe helps you begin your journey towards your goal.

# Spend time visualizing you achieving your goal.

Sit back and dream. Yes live your dream in your dream. Live it out. Relish being where you want the way you want with who ever you want in your head. As Vivekananda said, ” Take up idea, make that idea your life- think of it, dream of it. Live on it” and the idea or the dream is a reality.

# Chunk your grand wish into small palatable pieces.

Break up your goal into tiny little tasks to be done on a daily basis. Let me tell you here, that it is my ambition to become a writer that got me to blogging. As I put up my blogs, I know I am getting there sooner or later. And it helps to know that I am getting better at writing by the day:-)

# Commit on a daily basis

Be committed to your goal by checking whether you are on track. The chunking of your larger goal is what you should help you to stay committed. Don’t forget to compliment yourself on doing it. May be you can go out with yourself to a movie or coffee date.

# Respect the fact that time is a limited commodity

When we realize that life and time itself is a limited commodity, our priorities become clearer and we do sort of start working towards them. For instance, if you are aiming to get on to that favorite television show of yours, your time is certainly running out. If you are planning to get fit and then look around for your partner, well, seriously, fitness is not something that deserves to be kept for another day.

# Stay focused but be relaxed

No journey to greatness can be made possible without the right mindset. Stay on track but enjoy your journey. Don’t get stressed out because your time in the sun is not right now. And don’t worry that some body else is basking in glory.

Believe me, your great time is on its way!

Here is to actualizing your dream, three cheers!

What are you waiting for?

Go, get going!!!

Waiting to be heard

I love speaking

my squeaky voice

sailing through

its shrill pitch cracking a ear drum or two.

I love saying what I feel

dressing my thoughts in words beautiful

I say them loud

or write them down.

I love sharing what I have

giving generously

gaining modestly

or just making friends.

Yet the one who tearing the ramparts

of my soul ensconced himself in my heart

is stone deaf to my silence,my words,my sighs.

She looked up with eyes mirroring her heart

Turning my gaze,I sighed, I know.

PS: For often there are stories of strife, of pain, which we know of yet act ignorant.
